The Role

We’re looking for an Android Engineer who’s smart, fast, and takes ownership — someone who can own Wabi’s Android experience end-to-end and ship a world-class app to the Play Store.

We have a production iOS app and an existing codebase to draw from. Design is ready (our designer Antoine will adapt current designs for Android). Your mission: launch Wabi on Android with feature parity to iOS within the first month, then continue to evolve the app as a fully native, best-in-class experience.

This is not a cross-platform role. We believe in native apps for each platform — the iOS and Android apps will diverge where the platforms diverge. We want someone who lives and breathes Android.

What You’ll Do

• Own and build Wabi’s Android app from the ground up using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, adapting the existing iOS codebase with the help of AI-assisted tooling. Deploy-to-prod speed is crucial.
• Ship to the Play Store within your first month. Design is ready, the backend exists, and the iOS codebase provides a clear reference — your job is to execute fast and well.
• Collaborate closely with founder Eugenia Kuyda and design team to prototype and ship innovative software at startup speed.
• Drive feature parity with the iOS app while making thoughtful platform-specific decisions — ensuring Wabi feels at home on Android, not like a port.

What We’re Looking For

Mandatory

• 3–5+ years of professional Android development experience with apps shipped to the Play Store.
• Strong Kotlin and Jetpack Compose expertise, solid grasp of modern Android architecture (ViewModel, coroutines, Hilt/Koin) — this is the core of what you’ll write every day.
• Hands-on experience with networking and API integration (Retrofit, Ktor, or similar) — the backend and AI layer already exist; you’ll be building the client against them.
• Ability to work independently, move fast, and ship production-quality code. Our timeline is aggressive — we value pragmatic builders over architecture perfectionists.

Highly Valued

• Comfort with AI-assisted development workflows (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor). You’ll be adapting an iOS codebase with AI tooling — candidates who already work this way will move significantly faster.
• Prior experience as a mobile lead or head of mobile — if you’ve owned a mobile product end-to-end before, you’ll thrive here.
• Experience building consumer-facing products, especially in AI, social, or creative tool spaces.
